Dr. Jon Frieboes-Owner
I grew up in the small Midwestern towns of Iowa and Illinois. In 1968, I received a Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University with a major in mathmatics when Uncle Sam politely demanded that I join the armed forces. Now, with the happy company of my wife, Susan, I spent 3.5 years in the Air Force, working in the areas of administration, personnel and security. During that time, we found a love of the western United States, and I focused on finding a profession that would combine my love of science and all creatures great and small.
So it was back to school, this time to the Iowa State University of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, we headed west, where I joined a busy small animal practice in Las Vegas. After four years of long days and bright lights, we wanted to find a quieter small town type environment to live, work and raise a family. My vet school friend and classmate, Dr. Cheryl Hovick, was an associate at Rimforest Animal Hospital, and advised me that the practice was available for sale. So after the "Panarama Fire", the move was on.
My goal then in 1981, as it is now, was to establish a friendly, somewhat informal small town practice that emphasized good service to the clients and quality medicine and surgery for the patients. With the help of a great staff, we are challenged to meet that goal every day of practice. I particularly enjoy surgery, and really appreciate the long term relationships that we have with many of our clients and their pets.
"The Mountains" have been a great place for us. Susan and I have raised two wonderful daughters, Katie and Ellen, both of whom have left the nest, and are social workers. I enjoy swimming, golf, woodworking, and evening walks with Susan and our purebred mutts, Buddy and Mala. We also have two cats to herd daily.

I grew up in Newbury Park, California. I attended Cal Poly Pomona where I received a BS in Biology. I then attended the Veterinary school at UC Davis in Northern California. From where I graduated in 1989 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
My first trip to these mountains was in 1969 as a child. My father purchased a vacation cabin in Running Springs. We spent many family vacations there, and I grew to love the mountains. When I graduated from veterinary school and heard about a job opportunity in Rimforest I was excited. After interviewing and meeting everyone there, I liked it very much, so when they offered me the position as Associate Veterinarian I accepted and I have been here ever since! I love the mountains and have made this community my home.
I have two horses, three doggies, and five kitties. My animals are my furry-family.
One privilege I have had was to be appointed by Governor Gray Davis, to the Veterinary Medical Board of California in 2003. I was re-appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a second term in 2007. I served as President of the Veterinary Medical Board from 2009-2011. This was a part time position that involved enforcement and regulatory veterinary medical issues for the licensed Veterinarians and licensed Veterinary Technicians.
My free time is spent riding my horses, snow skiing, visiting National Parks and walking my doggies.
